Carbon Nanotubes Could Make Efficient Solar Cells

‘Ultra-primitive’ Particles Found In Comet Dust
Dust samples collected from the stratosphere have yielded an unexpectedly rich trove of relics from the ancient cosmos, scientists report. The dust includes presolar grains and material from interstellar molecular clouds. This “ultra-primitive” material likely wafted into the atmosphere after the Earth passed through the trail of an Earth-crossing comet in 2003, giving scientists a rare opportunity to study cometary dust in the laboratory.
Electric field propels worms to test new drugs
Researchers have developed a way to view the effects of a proposed drug treatment in real time using a mild electrical field to stimulate C. elegans nematodes. The discovery opens up significant possibilities for developing high-throughput micro-screening devices for drug discovery and other applications for treating diseases such as Huntington’s, Parkinson’s and muscular dystrophy.
Press Release from Solar Night Industries
12.18.2007-Solar Night Industries (PINKSHEETS: SLND), a renewable energy company formed to accelerate the adoption of Modern Energy Solutions, today announced the launch of their Modern Energy Plan, a proprietary process designed to help homeowners and commercial businesses save time and expense as they struggle to find knowledgeable suppliers and installers with cost-effective solutions for their properties. Carbon Nanotubes Could Make Efficient Solar Cells
Using a carbon nanotube instead of traditional silicon, researchers have created the basic elements of a solar cell that hopefully will lead to much more efficient ways of converting light to electricity than now used in calculators and on rooftops.
Reducing Heating Costs for Big Old Houses - Part 1
My father in law asked me to look at his utility bills today. It seems National Grid (our local utility - well sort of - they are British) just realized they were only billing him for natural gas delivery charges. His third-party gas supplier’s cut dropped through the cracks the past 4 months and just [.]
Are Washington State Greenhouse Gas Reporting Rules About to Change?
The Washington Department of Ecology is asking for changes to the state law that directs the agency to issue rules for reporting greenhouse gas emissions starting January 1, 2010. Ecology’s goal is, at least in part, to ensure that the State’s greenhouse gas reporting requirements are in line with the federal government’s.
Silver Nanoparticles Give Polymer Solar Cells A Boost
Small bits of metal may play a new role in solar power. Researchers are experimenting with polymer semiconductors that absorb the sun’s energy and generate electricity. The goal: lighter, cheaper, and more-flexible solar cells. They have now discovered that adding tiny bits of silver to the plastic boosts the materials’ electrical current generation.
New solar pond distillation system devised
Ecosystems of terminus lakes around the world could benefit from a new system being developed to desalinate water using a specialized low-cost solar pond and patented membrane distillation system powered by renewable energy.
