Just Say No to a Veto!

Just Say No to a Veto!
As was mentioned on our blog a few days ago–the House approved the new (modern) energy bill by a final vote of 241 to 172. This is GREAT NEWS!!! The bill requires that 15% of every utility’s power be generated by renewable energy by the year 2020! In the fall, the House must put this bill together with the Senate bill (recently approved) that requires higher fuel efficiency standards for motor vehicles. The marriage of the two bills will result in increased energy independence, as well as a cleaner environment. However. After the bills are united they still need to.
Treasury Issues Guidance for Cash Grants in Lieu of Energy Tax Credits
On July 9, 2009, the U.S. Treasury Department issued guidance for the award of cash grants by the federal government (”Grants”) in lieu of energy tax credits under Section 1603 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (”ARRA”).
New Generation Of Solar Cells Promises Efficiency
Scientists have produced thin film solar cells made from compound semiconductors which are already reaching a 12 percent efficiency. Thin film solar cells are considered the next generation of solar cells and are expected to be considerably cheaper because they need much less material and energy in their production than todays photovoltaic modules.
‘Magnetricity’ Observed And Measured For First Time
A magnetic charge can behave and interact just like an electric charge in some materials, according to new research. The findings could lead to a reassessment of current magnetism theories, as well as significant technological advances.
Desalination Technology Increases Naval Capabilities
The next generation of technology to turn saltwater into a fresh resource is on tap for the Navy. The Office of Naval Research is sponsoring the development of an innovative solution for generating potable water at twice the efficiency of current production for forces afloat, Marine Corps expeditionary forces and humanitarian missions ashore.

Ancient Diatoms Lead To New Technology For Solar Energy
Engineers have discovered a way to use an ancient life form to create one of the newest technologies for solar energy, in systems that may be surprisingly simple to build compared to existing silicon-based solar cells. The secret: diatoms.
New Electronic Concept: How Hybrid Motors Could Become Cheaper
Not all that long ago, hybrid vehicles were still really exotic. Now, you see them more and more frequently on our roads. However, hybrid cars are not mass-produced as their production costs are still relatively high. A researcher has now developed a new concept that integrates power electronic functions and an electric motor, which could reduce the costs of producing hybrid cars.
