Superhydrophobic: Self-cleaning, Low-reflectivity Treatment Boosts Efficiency For Photovoltaic Cells
Using two different types of chemical etching to create features at both the micron and nanometer size scales, researchers have developed a surface treatment that boosts the light absorption of silicon photovoltaic cells in two complementary ways.

Multiferroics: Making A Switch The Electric Way
Researchers have demonstrated that electric fields can be used as ON/OFF switches in multiferroic materials, a development that holds promise for future magnetic data storage and spintronic devices.
New, Light-driven Nanomotor Is Simpler, More Promising, Scientists Say
Sunflowers track the sun as it moves from east to west. But people usually have to convert sunlight into electricity or heat to put its power to use. Now, a team of chemists is the latest to report a new mechanism to transform light straight into motion — albeit at a very, very, very tiny scale.
BEEP BEEP–Honk if You’re Efficient!
I’ve declared my love for acronyms in a previous post, aptly titled ‘I Love Acronyms’. Today my energy efficient side and my acronym-loving side were happy to read about BOMA’s (Building Owners and Managers Association) BEEP (the BOMA Energy Efficiency Program). BOMA’s BEEP has been focusing on “low and no cost” strategies for energy efficiency on office buildings. If BEEP goals are met the 9 billion square feet of office and retail space in the U.S. would cut energy consumption one third by 2012. BEEP estimates that the 33% cut in energy consumption “equates to $7.2 billion, and is readily.
